Melanerpes formicivorus
Blomthree HNHR
16 April 1000. There are several birds over in the area by box 218,
across the vernal pool toward (more or less) Gazebo. I
looked at one & up in a tree who was unbanded, making
me wonder - is there a separate group here? (Blomfour?)
Might be worth keeping track of, just in case.
Well, I see now that there are lots of NOBAs here at
Blomthree, so they probably do belong there.
1 August There were still lots of stored acorns here as of a week
ago or so.
1990
31 March 1100. Flushed 1 bird from the granary area, where there are still
a few stored acorns left (but not many - maybe ~250). I then
heard some calls over by the Vernal Pool area and walked over
there, flushing 3 (maybe only 2) birds. I only ID'd one, who
was a ♀ NOBA.
The question is, is this still a "separate" group over here? Or
what's the deal then? The birds generally seemed to flush over
toward Gazebo, so maybe they belong there.
18 April Cleared out a starling nest from the lower of the 2 old nest
holes in the traditional nest tree here (these holes are
connected now?)
24 April 1020. None in any holes. Still some stored acorns here.
29 April 635. 8 R-w(w) #1681 over toward ravine from central area, just
sitting. They must be using a hole over here....
6 May 1645. Cleared out a starling nest (with 4 babies) in the Blue Oak ½-way
to Blomtwo (the ½-way tree).
