1990 WaltrD Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus 2 1800 (12 April) 1030. Leaving. Got poor looks at birds that were most likely ♂ #770 and ♂/♀ #1438, ♀ here also. 2 May 1100. Opened a new hole in the Live Oak up above the granary where birds roosted last night: 1 egg! 4 May 1800. Checked the hole: now 3 eggs. 13 May 715. " " " : 5 eggs. 15 May 815. No sounds from nest, but bird in hole: presumably not hatched yet. 22 May 1145. Didn't check the hole, but baby sounds are coming from here. 1 June 1540. Set up for blood. Need ♂787 (no blood!) and ♂1438 (dried only). 1628. Got her! Also bled the 2 babies. 1650. Plenty of stored acorns remaining here, by the way. 2 June 1045. Back to give myself a chance to nab ♂1438. ♂787, ♂770 both fed. 1230. All for now. Rebleeding j1852. 4 June 1030. Going, one more time at least, for ♂1438. 1100. Got him! 9 June 1100. Banded & measured the babies. 17 June *Group Update* ♂1651. Last seen 17 Nov '89, gone by 23 Feb → D.A 1 Jan '90 ± 6 wks. 17 September 1600. Still lots of old acorns stored here, as well as a few new green ones. 11 November *Group Update* j1852. Not seen after banding.
