1989 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes famicivorus Plague HAWR 30 March 2000. I set ambushes in 2 holes in the 2° tree, catching none in the nest hole and only ♀#1529 in the high hole. Bummer. 2 April 1200. ♂ 3°-1 #1665 here in tree. 3 April 530. 2 birds roosted in the high hole in the 2° tree but I only caught 1: ♂1665. He was bled and released. The others turned out to be roosting in a new hole, in the limb that stretches over the road toward the Pumphouse. 11 April 815. Saw ♀ ca/ds-only #1403 sitting up here along the fence line near MacRoberts. 820. ♂ flew back toward Plague 821. Now an ub♀ in the same tree (near MacRoberts)! 855. Up in the same tree briefly was ♀ Or-DB/Red #1560 from Y. 912. Another ub♀ here checking things out. 11 May 1800. Finally caught ♀973, ambushing her at the nest. So we now have blood from the whole group. 15 May Something up here this morning- power struggle activity. At 1100 I watched for a bit. Saw ♂ Or-wh(w)/wh #1529. Over by The Griffins are 3♂ Or-wh(w)/wh #1530 plus 2 other ♂s. Not sure what's up here! ♀13SD from KNOLL 1112. In one of the locusts by Griffins, calling and prompting at least some of the raquet is ♀ Bik-BP(w)/Mr-Dg #13SD from Knoll. This is a breeder- what's she doing here? 1116. Now ♂ Bik-Yel/Or #521 here by Griffins. At least he's not the problem.
