1989 1990 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes famicivorus Upper Arnold Z HNHR 5 May 1600. Set up; trying to get 9632 at the nest. 1630. 9 here along with 288. I is 8 mauve/white 1645. Got her! 2 August 1000. Counted stores: Nest tree: 300 Main (dead) granary: 2500 2800. These trees are pretty full; I'd guess at least 50% full. Hence, my estimate for capacity is 5000. 1990 18 January 1500. Counted stores here: Nest tree: 1005 Main granary: 3222 4417. Misc: 190 As usual, the dead granary poses some challenging counting problems, but in any case the trees are pretty full and 5000 is still a reasonable estimate for capacity here. 2 April 1050. Lots of acorns still here, of course, but none in any holes. 15 April 1640. 8 in new hole in nest-tree granary. Should be easy to climb and open. 1740. Opened the hole, which the birds have obviously been building. It will be nice soon, but is not quite ready yet. 25 April 1100. None in any holes. Checked the new hole, which doesn't look much different from when I opened it on the 15th 29 April 1705. None in any holes here.
