1989 1990 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Keep Out HNHR 2 August 1020. Lots of stored acorns still here. Although I didn't feel like counting, a rough guess is that They have 2500-3000 acorns left and that capacity here (not including the tree 1/2-way up to Arnold Schwartz) is on the order of 4000. 5000 (including The burned Live Oak). 1990 11 January 1100. Counted stores here: Main tree: 2723 } Burned LO: 545 } 3770 Misc branches: 502 ) This includes several small branches in the storage area near the fence but not the limbs 1/2-way up toward Arnold Schwarz, which are empty in any case. I'd put capacity here, (minus that upper tree) at around 4500. (which is probably Arnold Schwatzenegger's) 2 April 1020. Lots of stored acorns still here. 1040. ♀ Bk/or #1668 flycatching just over the fence. 22 April 1140. ♀ Bk-or/dr-Bk ?? Presumably ♀1668, somewhat pwereted. 29 April 1645. Birds in last year's nest hole in dead live oak. It's very cool this evening, so this may not mean much, but I'd check. 3 May 1130. Watching for a few minutes, birds - very possibly mate-guarding; flew to last year's nest hole, so I checked it: empty but in good shape. 10 May 1510. Yes: last year's hole, 4 fresh eggs. 15 May 1500. Checked the nest: 4 eggs. 2 June 1500. Lots of stored acorns remaining here 11 June 1430. Banded the 4 babies. 18 June *Cover update*
