Melanerpes formicivorus
Buckeye Annex
HNHR
9 June 1415. f in the hole here!
1745. Bird in hole again!. Climbed and checked it: empty.
But I'd be surprised if something doesn't happen here
shortly.
The bird flushed the opposite direction from Buckeye proper, by
the way, so I bet this is a separate group.
15 June 1900. 4 birds in the upper of the 2 holes! Checked it:
empty. Set ambushes at both holes.
16 June 430. Got 2 NOBAs (♂, ♀); neither was in breeding condition
nor does either hole have eggs. Both are probable 1st yr birds.
So who are those other birds that didn't roost here? (Only
2 birds came back and I got them both).
For now I will credit this group with a resident pair
as of • May 0th.
