1989 1990 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Road 1 12 June 1730. Watched the new hole in a Live Oak up above the Finch granary that I found last night, but no sign of a nest. These birds do have some stored acorns left (not many, but definitely a few). 2 August 845. No stores left here. 1990 17 January 1430. Counted stores: Valley Oak: 410 Sycamore: 385 Not so good, but a lot better than most of the other groups out here along the road! Note that there are, as usual at this point, no stored acorns over at the old (but still apparently quite functional) Finch granaries. 28 March Opened the new hole in the Creek Sycamore here, where at least 1 bird roosted last night. I also set an ambush, but none roosted here tonight. 24 April Still can't find [illegible] where anyone's roosting here. 20 May 830. The mystery is finally solved here, presumably, with a bird [illegible] in the high hole in the sycamore along the road. 24 May 800. Finally got up to the hole: 4 eggs, incubated. 28 May 1400. Babies (all 4) have hatched, probably already in day 3. 8 June 1520. At long last, I'm set up and in position to get The SNOBA As a backup, I need frozen blood from R804. 1700. Line messed up. Trying again, probably just for the F. 1815. Nope. Not this time. All 4 babies in the nest. 10 June 1530. Skip got the B! [illegible]. Then bled the 5 babies:
