1990 Walther D Goenig Melanerpes Fornicivorus Wolfpack HNHR 17 January 1440. Counted stores: 316, mostly in the Sycamore nest tree and the large VO by the creek. There are, however a few in a 2nd sycamore by the creek in one branch and some holes, anyway, in the VO just across the road toward Warp 5. All in all, I'd say they may have capacity on the order of 1000; not bad at all for a new group. I'm still not sure how or why they manage - Finch, empty for some time now, is still a much better territory! 5 April 1730. A bird was looking out of the hole in the dead sycamore limb (smellish tree over toward R1) this afternoon so I went up and checked it: hole in good shape but no eggs yet. 20 April 1845. Bird in same hole earlier today: still empty. 24 April 1900. "(s) roosting in the dead sycamore hole. 26 April 1130. 3 fresh eggs in live sycamore hole! 16 May 1140. Down to 2 babies. (See MTS notes for intervening data at this next). 18 May 1440. Set up to get 81336, from whom I only have dried blood. Seen feeding: 8M, #1672. 1525, 81336 came - bobber messed up. Will try again tomorrow. 19 May 1300. Trying again for 81336. 1410. Bitch! Maybe tomorrow.... 20 May 750. And again, This time from The other side of the road. 1005. ! 81336 in - somehow escaped! Rats!! 22 May 1215. Set up for 81336 again. 1330. Got him, finally!. Bleed the babies for good measure. 28 May 1500. Banded the babies, Who are fine.
