20 Aug.
Turrubal, Prov. Cartago to San Jose
up at 7 with diavela & ackes all over.
Drove up to Santa Cruz on the rd to JazĂș-
no habitat, save at a small rocky river
with very steep sides. Returned to town &
met up w/ Juan Yoe who took us on a tour
of the TICA grounds, then lunch at the Rest.
Nueva Hong Kong. By now am sure I have
tourista & on the drive to San Jose am
quite nauseous. We drove out of town thru
Heredia on the Vlean Poas rd. up to
Vera Blanca, a Gardner locality. This
area is pastureland with intermingled
copses & we may have found habitat but
I was feeling pretty bad. Back to town
thru Aljuela (a much better road) & a
room at the Tala. To bed miserable at
9.
21 Aug.
San Jose
up at 7 & feeling slightly better but still
with runs. Start packing & go to Pan Am to get
on tomorrow's flight home. I got queasy so came
back & packed & took it easy while Ray did
all the town work. Export permit OK, but
he had some tense moments trying to get
to the University to drop off one of each
