0. Straney 1978 134. Aug. (Cont'd.) very small rocky streams. Got to Saguires at 2:30 & headed back to Limon absolutely exhausted and frustrated. Napped, showered and had dinner, then talked 'til 10:30 & bed. Aug. Limon, Prov. Limon, to Turrialba Prov. Cartago Up at 7:30 & to Alfredo's by 8:30 for breakfast. We spent a few hours getting set, then left the port at Moín going up the Inland Passage N by boat. There is mangrove near Moín that gives way to palms & nice forest. We went 15-20km N to Laguna Magarta (?) where a river breaks thru the barrier island to reach the sea. Spent until 4 there walking the beach, fishing & eating - generally relaxing. On the return stopped at mouth of the Rio Torro for a sandwich - saw a crocodilia here (3-4' long) & many small fish. Back at Alfredo's by 4 we were on the rd to Turrialba by 4:30. Between 5 & 5:15 we saw 2 sloths (Bradypus geucus - 3 bed) crossing the road. Got pictures of these strange animals? Used a stick to get one out of the way of some tracks & he clawed onto it - quite a strong grip. Hit Turrialba after dark & got a room at the Hotel Central (another warley may have been better) w/ parking ($ 30) and a very hard bed. To bed - 11.
