from falling on the beds. After cooling off,
we processed the 7 on the sidewalk, attracting
the usual large crowd. Had a quick lunch
of fried lobster & rice, then Alfredo took us out
to a culvert 2.5 to 3km S on the Rio Blanco
rd which is 12 km up the Hwy from Limon.
The culvert has 5 pipes ~ 1m diam set in
concrete under this Finca road (cacao & banana).
Saw bats in the pipes so set a net & Ray
threw rocks. Did this twice & got all bats
from the culvert (one or two maybe got out).
15 Macrophyllum (short rostrum & very large feet),
2 Micronycteris cf. Megalotis & 2 large
Glossophaga.
It was really hot, but
we had fun getting these. Then drove up further
on the road but found nothing more so returned
to town. We went back to the Miami, showered,
had dinner & processed bats. Talked & read,
to bed by 12.
8 Aug.
Limon, Prov. Limon
up by 8 & on the rd by 9:30. Spent the day
until 2:30 driving down the gravel roads off of
the main Hwy looking in culverts & under
bridges. Saw no bats. There is also very little
habitat along these roads - all plantations with
