right off. ~ 8:30 started raining & sat in car
till 10:45 when it slackened & rechecked &
took down nets, getting the other Sterniva .
To bed after a fairly miserable night by 12.
15 Aug.
Root. "la Georgina" Prov. San Jose to Limon, Prov. Limon
Breakfast & on the rd by 9. Drove to Cartago
then took the rd. to Turrubalva (C->Tun. ~ 2 hrs)
in a driving rain. Today is Mother's Day
& everyone is on the rd & in cemeteries. In
Turrubalva, went to the IICA headquarters
just S of town to check out the pond here that
Sam Sweet suggested. The pond is a small
marsh, little open water & too big to net. No
fruit trees or bananas near by - a manicured
lawn. Went back to town for lunch at the
Hong Kong Rest. & Ray got in touch with his
mother's friend Juan Yee, a very successful
dusinessman. Went to his house & met the family
& carried on a conversation in Chinese (Ray & Juan),
Spanish (Ray, Juan & family) & English (Ray & me &
daughter Rosalia). After ~ 2 hrs left the rd. for
Saguirres, (~ 1 1/2 hrs), a real dump of a town w/o hotel.
We looked at the many rivers along the Hwy
on to Limon & found one (Rio Pacaurito) that
was the right size & with some excellent forest
Not the rd. I processed bats & Ray cut poles
