O. Straney 1978 129. 14 Aug (cont'd) right off. ~ 8:30 started raining & sat in car till 10:45 when it slackened & rechecked & took down nets, getting the other Sterniva . To bed after a fairly miserable night by 12. 15 Aug. Root. "la Georgina" Prov. San Jose to Limon, Prov. Limon Breakfast & on the rd by 9. Drove to Cartago then took the rd. to Turrubalva (C->Tun. ~ 2 hrs) in a driving rain. Today is Mother's Day & everyone is on the rd & in cemeteries. In Turrubalva, went to the IICA headquarters just S of town to check out the pond here that Sam Sweet suggested. The pond is a small marsh, little open water & too big to net. No fruit trees or bananas near by - a manicured lawn. Went back to town for lunch at the Hong Kong Rest. & Ray got in touch with his mother's friend Juan Yee, a very successful dusinessman. Went to his house & met the family & carried on a conversation in Chinese (Ray & Juan), Spanish (Ray, Juan & family) & English (Ray & me & daughter Rosalia). After ~ 2 hrs left the rd. for Saguirres, (~ 1 1/2 hrs), a real dump of a town w/o hotel. We looked at the many rivers along the Hwy on to Limon & found one (Rio Pacaurito) that was the right size & with some excellent forest Not the rd. I processed bats & Ray cut poles
