in more banana leaves, but with no success
(Sweets "First Rock" rule applies to batting in
bananas). Got lunch (~3) at the restaurant
of the night before ("Te Bone Especialo"
is excellent at $35). As we were eating the
sky opened and the rain was quite persistently
heavy. Decided to scrap this end of
things and drove back to San Isidro.
Had more rain at Palomares. To San Isidro
after dark for a room & dinner at the

I have seen very little worthwhile habitat
in this portion of Costa Rica south of San Isidro.
There are no bat streams as the riparian
forest has been cut &, where not, they are just
trickles in steep ravines. It is clear that the
area has been recently developed (one can
see good forest but can't get to it) and the
doom seems to be on the upswing. I doubt
that many localities in this area over five years

the beasts sought were abundant in disturbed
areas. The road would also be little fun to
road drive. The one patch of good habitat
we found at Finca "Tienda Santo" was not
good for bat diversity, but we were unable to
work it extensively & this might bear some
