Got lunch (~3) at the restaurant of the night before ("Te Bone Especialo" is excellent at $35). As we were eating the sky opened and the rain was quite persistently heavy. Decided to scrap this end of things and drove back to San Isidro. Had more rain at Palomares. To San Isidro after dark for a room & dinner at the Hotel Chirripo. I have seen very little worthwhile habitat in this portion of Costa Rica south of San Isidro. There are no bat streams as the riparian forest has been cut &, where not, they are just trickles in steep ravines. It is clear that the area has been recently developed (one can see good forest but can't get to it) and the doom seems to be on the upswing. I doubt that many localities in this area over five years old would be worth re-investigating, unless the beasts sought were abundant in disturbed areas. The road would also be little fun to road drive. The one patch of good habitat we found at Finca "Tienda Santo" was not good for bat diversity, but we were unable to work it extensively & this might bear some
