D.D. Straney 1978 124 12 Aug (contd.) Chiapas. One can see good forest away from the rd & probably could work it w/ permission. May be hell to get to. Most of the area along the rd is heavily cut & settled. The streams are wide, sandy & with almost no riparian trees. Only one or 2 wettable streams to the N part of rd. Hit Villa Neilly at dark - the rd has many lg pot holes & we bent the hub of one tire on one. This is a nasty little town, crowded one Saturday nite. Only 1 good hotel (Museco, 2 singles, $20/per) w/ street parking. We lugged our stuff up & got dinner at a chinese restaurant across the Pan Am. Sweaty as well, we returned to the hotel, showered & to bed by 11. 13 Aug. Villa Neily, Prov. Puntarenas to San Isidro del General, Prov. San Jose Up early due to noise but slept fitfully till 8:30. Then packed up and drove out the road to San Vito some 40 km N of Villa Neily (Also known as Ciudad Neily). Just N of town there is a maze of gravel rds - apparently the area is booming. The San Vito rd is basically a continuation of the rd the Hotel Museo is on. After crossing the river at the edge of town, this rocky, bumpy road climbs
