7. Sfrancey 1978 Cañas, Guanacaste Prov. 7 Aug. Up at 8 & processed 'til Noon. Piddled away the PM, leaving for last nets site #4. Set up three nets, [illegible] over river Then the sky opened. Took down river nets. Got 1 Artib. Jamaicanus and 1 S. lillium by 7:15 and, as was still raining, called it quits. Home & dinner by 8:30. Slept by 11:30 after one wet night. 8 Aug. Cañas, Prov. Guanacaste to San José Up at 7 & processed the 2 lots from last site for the permit. Finally left "La Pacifica" (3 sites # 250+) at 1 PM, Bonnie & Rollie not back from the field. Drove on up back onto the Meseta Central. There is really little habitat along the Coast, a few rivers (large), at least one setttable one near Puntaranas turn off. The Meseta itself is mostly in coffee with little banana. Nothing doubtfully settable on the road. We went thru San José to Cartago to find a place, rising to get there over a cedar crested ridge. Got there in dark (~6:15) and rain to find no hotel - only the unmarked "Pensión Panamá" which a lady at the gas station by the ruins of the citadel told us of. Some helpful folks directed us to there but it was full, lousy & probably a whore house. Disgusted, drove back
