O. Stanley 1977 112 19 Dec. cont'd. and caught many more Artibeus, Phronotus, and the 2 Saccopteryx (had seen these & 1 Demodus roosting under the bridge). The activity was fierce & hardly keeping up with bats putting them to flight. Finally got both cleared ~ 8 PM & returned to get another bat bag and found Sam had been having similar fun. He also pointed out that the red eyeshine in the grass was from a crocodilian - he had grabbed a 4' one and could not hold it. The activity began to slacken, and so did our perseverance, so took down nets. Finished this at 9:40, then drove to Puerto Arista for bed as all the rooms were filled this morning when we tried. A light snack and bed by 11. 20 Dec. Puerto Arista, Chis to Huajuapan de Leon, Oax up at 7 with the beach beginning to fill up people. Pickled the few dead bats and drove to Tonalá for Cokes and on to Oaxaca. Took about 4 hrs from Tehuantepec to Oaxaca, almost 3 frm Tonalá to Oaxaca. About 3 hrs from Oaxaca to , where we netted. Set 2 nets in the river thru town, 2 nets downstream from the bridge. Saw one bat & caught him - a Tadarida. Then drove to Huajuapan, another hour or so. Got a room at the Hotel Loma Vista.
