D.O.Straney 1977 107. 15 Dec. cont'd. Finally found one that looked promising 2.8 Km N Trinidad. It is only a foot or 2 across and is in coffetal, but with many bananas. The upstream part along the road is very thick with promising vegetation.. It is very rocky, tho, with no usable pools. Set 4 nets by 5:30 - 2 at the entrance of the culvert under the rd., one at an S in the stream where there were clearer areas to the inside of the curve, and one in relatively thick banana plants/trees further down. As we finished we ran into some people who informed us that this area was used as the bathting area for a village just up the road. Shortly before dark a couple came down to use the stream & I warned them of the net, which he called a "mist". Waited for them to finish, frustrated as we saw bats flying while they were splashing. Finally decided they were really washing clothes and, this requiring no public decency, we went down. The seƱor commented on how effective the "mist" was and, sure enough, the net closest to the culvert was packed with Carollia. Started removing these and discovered that our lights were attracting enough tiny insects to make breathing difficult. I resorted to stuffing part of my shirt in my mouth, lifting the button, and straining the
