D.O. Straney 1977 97. Dec. cont'd. Returned to motel & repacked for the field. Found an American music station on the motel intercom. to bed by 12:45. 9 Dec Mexico City to Cordoba, Var. Up by 7:20 AM to face the Mexico City rush hours by 7:30. The road to VIPs passes a major bus depot and between scurrying people and mindless merging buses, it was quite a way to wake up. Breakfast at VIPs - $36 + $1.80 tax - of an omelet w/ potatoes, onions & bacon. Then drove to get LN2. The place is INFRA, 11c San Francisco Cuatlalpan St. in , just N of the Distrito Federal off of 57, on Mex Rt. 130 & off of this. Got lost twice - once because the connection between Vraducto & Periferico was closed, a second time because Rt 130 is labelled on maps as 134. Got this done by 10:30. Was somewhat curious to do business in a language I don't really understand, and everyone was very helpful. Then drove out to Puebla. On the way, we were shunted off onto a side street w/ everyone else as a motorcade of many gun toting men and three ominous buses went zooming past with helicopter escort. Reached Puebla by noon, Oregaba by 2 PM. This was the 1st time I have been over the pass to Oregaba in the day and the transition from high plateau
