4th to 13 Sept.
Costa Rica.
and broad valleys between peaks. Dinner
in Zamora at cafe' William (strange place).
Drove down to Jct w/ 80 & took this as
far as Cocula Jalisco where we got a room at
the (only) hotel in town - $70/30 plus!
Breakfast the 9th in Autlan ~11 am. RT 80
is a much faster rd to the coast than is 37.
Again an arid stretch between coast & plateau.
Hit Barra de Navidad ~2 pm & spent some time
wandering the fine beach & bird watching -
many frigate birds. Dinner of fish at a
hotel here then drove up 200 to Puerto Vallarta
snake-cruising (found only 1 Mast/cables). Found
a cheap hotel N of town.
Breakfast the 10th at Las Varas and continued
winding thru coastal hills until just N of
Tepic where we hit the broad Pacific coastal
plain and heavy agriculture. Dinner just S of
Culiacan then road drove the rd to Badiraguato
for snakes - little luck but there was a drug check
halfway up the rd. Drove on to Guamuchil & an
expensive motel for the night.
Breakfast the 11th in town then up to Las Mochis
where we went down to the port at Topolobampo to
see about the ferry to La Paz. ~$100 P/person,
M (cargo), W & F so we decided not to go to Baja.
Drove up to Navajoa & dinner in a very Americanized
