D.O. Straney 1977 93. 6 Sept. Somewhere, Chias. to Puebla, Puell. Mexico Up at 7:30 and on the road by 9:30. Stopped for breakfast in Tonala. Took 185 N at La Ventosa about noon. Stopped along here to pickle snakes. Then up 145 to Tuxtepec to 150 to Cordoba then the toll rd to Puebla. Stopped ~ 10 PM at the Zaragoza Motel for dinner & the same room we had last time, now with a third bed. 7 Sept to 13 Sept. Puebla, Puell. to Berkeley, Calif. Up early then into Mexico City to the animal health offices 15 Dr. Moro St. right on the Ave. Juarez Alameda. They said we needed no more permits for the CO2 tank. Then down 95 D to Acapulco, arriving here for dinner. This road runs thru hilly country getting into caeti N of Zumpango. It gets slightly more mesic on the coast. Made it, thru thunderstorms that really blew Acapulco around, to Petatlan, Guer. for the night of the 7th in the only hotel we saw along this road. Breakfast the 8th at truckstops near La Union, then took 37 N from La Mira. Crossed the dam on Rio Balsas & a drug check. This road is slow until Cuatro Caminos where the plateau begin to rise more slowly. Fairly mesic coastal hills. At Uruapan began climbing again into pines and by the time we hit Carapan & Rte 15, we were on the plateau proper - Pines w/ grassland
