D.O.Shaney 1977 92. 1 Sept. Cont'd. airport trying not to get boarded. 5 sept. Caracas Venezuela to Guatemala City, Guatemala At 5:30pm checked in for plane after about 15 min sleep. Were taken by bus to the airplane and took off on Pan Am 516 15min late at 7:30. Flew over N Venezuela to Maricibo - fairly flat here w/ NE-SW ridges cutting thru back from the coast. then over water to S Panama and some fantastic snow-capped mountains. About at the Panama Canal breakfast was served. Arrived Guatemala City at 9:45am and got thru customs with no problems. Met John Eidle who had some advice for traveling & communicating in Latin America. then repack his car. Stopped off in the market place to buy shirts and some blankets. Left GC ~11:30 headed for the Talsman border which we reached ~3:30. the Mexican authorities did not wont to let the liquid nitrogen tank thru as they were afraid it contained bull semen. Took zbus & a trip w/ them to Tapachula to get it cleared. then drove into town for a Coke at the old Hamburger joint then on down the road to Arriaga. Stopped ~1hr S of Tonalá at a bus-station - motel for the nite ~10 PM.
