Simla Vicinity
Up at noon after a bad niter sleep. Laundry
lunch then to Arima to buy batteries & machetes.
The people at the store did not know what the
latter were & after a bit we discovered that
we wanted "catlasses". Drove up the Blanchusses rd.
to the crest & found a good net site, then
returned down this ~~ windly, narrow,
lumpy rd. to Simla & lunch.~~ At
4:30 returned to 10 mi N Arima by rd.
to a logging rd branching to W off of main
road at the crest of the hills. A Microwave
Complex is just E of this turnoff. We had
seen a Saccopteryx (?) flying here ~2:30 PM
so set 4 nets by sunset here - 2 in forest
& 2 where the ridge narrowed to a pass.
~7 checked the latter 2 nets & pulled out
bats for a solid 1 1/2 hrs until things quieted
down. The Vespertilionids taken then. The
former 2 didn't do much all night. By 10 PM,
The activity had died, so took down nets.
