30 July Palenque, Chris. to Ocosingo, Chris.
Up at 8 for breakfast then out to ruins. Spent 'til 2 PM around here finding lizards & one Sundisea in the pine forest surrounding the ruins. Processed these after a light lunch then on out Ocosing rd. This rd is paved for 42 mi S of Palenque where they are building a bridge. Then about 5 more mi. paving leaving ~25mi unpaved to Ocosingo - time ~ 2 1/2 hrs driving. The mts here are low getting up to 1050m. at Ocosing. Most of the forest has been cut leaving extensive swaths of second growth everywhere but on the steepest slopes. Stopped off at Agua Azul fall a magnificent sight ~ 56 km S Palenque. Dark by time we reached Ocosingo so coke for dinner & then back 6 mi N to borrow pit for a compact. Processed 2 snakes we had found DOR on the way up & to bed by 10.
31 July Ocosingo, Chris. to Tapachula, Chris.
Up at 7 & m to Ocosingo for breakfast. Then on up rd another 50+ miles, to P.O E of San Cristobal (2 khrs). The rd has some nasty spots but no problems. The habitat, the, is similar to the part N of Ocosingo until reaching the fine pine forests ~2000m. Here tho
