Soyala for dinner then rd driving till 10-11 PM than camped on banks of Rio Laja - a very wee stream. 25 July Ariz. Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chis to Comitán, Chis. Up ley 8 and off to Tuxtla to do chores. Arrived ~10 and had lunch then cashed checks, bought batteries, map & PB, and sent off post cards. About noon, left on 190 to Comitán. The road continues up in the mts into fine pine forest, reaching San Cristóbal at 7000'. Fine pine parkland SE of San Cristóbal right on highway. Some rain. Habitat much the same, tho dropping in elevation, picking up some hardwoods, dry Comitán which lies in a broad cultivated valley. No gas in Comitán so had dinner & back to last gas some 30km N. Back down & out rd to Monte Iello finding only Bubo Marinas. Back in Comitán at 8:30 PM getting a room in the Hotel Morelos, toiled by 10:30. 26 July Comitán, Chis. Vicinity Up at 8:30 and breakfast at the Hotel Internacional. Then drove out to the Lagunas after driving further E to last gas in Mexico (190 drops into an dried valley E of Comitán). Had lunch at L. Montebello.
