O. Straney 1977 68. 17 July contd. Drove back over the mts. to Jxtlan for dinner in the only eatery in town - opposite the church - which only had beer to drink. Then set a net on the stream 1.0 mi N of town off of 175. Net up just at dark (7:45) & bat seen flying overhead. John left to redrive. A few minutes later another bat flew up to the top traveled then zipped over the net. Net down at 10:40 & we went off to look for a place to sleep. Tried several dirt roads by the large bridge down 175, but nothing. Finally, in frustration, we pitched the tent on the side of 175 & fell directly to sleep. 18 July Jxtlan, Oax. to Sola de Vega, Oax. Up 8 & packed up & drove off to Oaxaca. Just short of the city we stopped at a stream to wash up & prepare specimens. Then in to town to find the banks closed. A rather nice city. Then drove out to Sola de Vega (175-131) & had a much needed lunch at one of the many little restaurants there. Then drove 12+ mi up 131 into mts to a salamander roadcut. Very
