O. Straney 1977 67. 16 July, contd. Comalepec rd. A fine stream crosses this 0.6 mi down - fine for bat nets as a valley funnels up the stream. Drove further down to a bus stop & John spent a couple of hrs catching salamanders in the ruin - a fine piece of forest here. Many uncedor joys playing around. Then back to Machin for dinner. Had planned to set nets at the above stream but torrential downpour until 10:30 & much wind dissuaded me. We looked at a few rockfaces but found nothing. Back to the Machin campsite for bed - 11:15. 17 July Machin, Oax to Jxtlan, Oax Up ~ 8 & breakfast. Packing things up we left for Oaxaca. Stopped on rd ~10 we met 2 people from Texas (one teaches at Trinity) who were collecti wise on the Vista Hermosa - Cerro Pelon transect. Many Paramyscus where which replace each other altitudinally. Also several sp. of Leithrodobmy, Tylomys, Nyctomys etc. Proceeded on to Oaxaca for gas, then out to Mittle for a salamander locality. Spent ~ 45 min at the ruins (after a roadside PB & J lunch). This area is very dry. Drove on up a rocky rd. towards Ayutla but it was too late to go all of the way.
