D. Straney 1977 63. 12 July, cont'd lunch at Miguel's. Processed some of John's many specimens, & packed car. Left town ~ 4 pm with fond memories of some very friendly & helpful people. Drove to Tuxtpec, arriving by 8pm. More processing of John's hand & fto bed. Saw 2 Oryzomy ? in courtyard of Motel (El Reposo) but couldn't catch them. 13 July Tuxtpec, Oax. to Vista Hermosa, Oax. Up at 8:30 and into Tuxtpec proper for breakfast and to have the tire re-fixed. Then drove down 175 thru Valle National which is just into the foothills. Prior to this the area is heavily cultivated, esp. in cane. Several promising bat areas just N of town. Got gas here, then up into wtos. At 16.9 mi S Valle National (from mcn) came to good pulloff on a small ridge (1390m.) and here photographed and processed most of John's remaining specimen Then in mid-pm drove up the rd away looking for collecting sites. Very steep in here, cloud shrouded. Tall gallery forests w/ cercropia that is hard to reach except along streams at curves in the rd. Many fine rockfaces. Stopped ~ 4:30 at a small chapel 30.5 mi S Valle National & John searched for amphibians, finding 3 thorius - I got one Lepto- dactylid near the car. Then drove back to Vista Hermosa for dinner at a tiny front-room eatery.
