D.O.Straney 1977 62. 11 July, contd. to be either above or below net. The area around the bridge is heavily settled with banana, fruit & cane fields scattered in near the banks of the arroyp. Back & to bed by 11:30pm. 12 July Coatlapan, Ver. to Tuxtla Cax. up at 7 for breakfast at Miguels by 7:30. Then John went w/ Sr. Corón & Daniel to climb Cerro Chica huaxtla which dominates the city - looking for Linostrotan & Pseudorycea. I went w/ 3 boys to the caves on side of this mtn., 10 min out of town. Went up to cave 1 & in 10 min had 3 Desmodus & 1 Diphylla (!). Other bats were scared around at ledge which lead to a hole straight down. Powered this for a few min. & saw 2 vampires (sp?) fly up, but couldn't catch them. After ½hr gave up & went to cave 2 - with a ~12 m. entrance portal leading to a mouth of ~1m. Set up a slit net at mouth & kids went down in cave to frighten bats out. They caught the other Carollia funerea yesterday & got more woods. Glossoph. aga tried to fly out but caught in net, 4 other bats in crevice above net, but could not catch them. Returned to town by 10⁴ᵐ & processed bats & waked for John who arrived ~1:45pm. Then
