J.O. Straney 1977 58. 8 July, contd. down by 11pm and back to motel, as nothing new & exciting was turning up. Noted a sign on a nearby finca claiming insecticides were being used heavily - this may explain the species composition here, although there were moths in abundance but very few beetles or other noxious "bugs". Most bats caught seemed to be going towards water- most caught in topmost net. Right below this was the calmest, largest pool we saw on the river, right at the bridge. Almost all bats (same Desmodus) had fed. Costepec, Ver. to Orizaba, Ver. 9 July Up at 8:00 to be greeted by a flat tire, changed it & repacked car & drove thru Jalapa & up to Sanorilla before finding a Vacaugadoro to fix it. This took until ~10:45. Up to restaurant in la Joya for lunch at 11 then up to Las Vegas area for a nice place to process our accumulated catch. This took until 5pm, with much fog & cool air to keep things from spoiling. Then a long drive to Orizaba stopping at the 1st motel we saw (8:30). Dinner in town, then back for bed.
