J.O. Straney 1977 55. Toluca, Mex. to Puebla, Puel. 6 July Up at 8:30 and breakfast in sleazy bus depot adjouing hotel. Then back to Mexico city for permits. Discovered in town my watch is 45 min fast of local time so reset it. Entered permit office at 10:28 (see map). Exactly 4 hrs. later left w/ permit after waiting and waiting for them to do something. The secretaries are the key to the whole show. Plan to waste a day if have to do this. Picked up state maps @ 18 pesos on Juarez dy the Alameda then drove out. got wuxed up trying to get back on Reforma but finally (10min) were headed right way. Noted many polico -busloads of them and in Clupultepec PK discovered the reason- a (leftist?) demonstration apparently centered on health care. Came out 150-D toll rd to Puebla, stopping for diner at a brace of resterauntes in Rio Frio (5:30-6:30). Drove out old 150 from here ~3 miles and turned off $logs for salamanders - found some! 18 (S) got break as 1 Chiropterotriton, ? 3? Psuadoerycea sp 1 & the rest P. Sp 2 . Collected 6:30-7:30 by which time getting very hk. Drove on down toll rd to Puebla to a nice model just off freeway at E end of town for night (9:00) of salamander skinning.
