D. Strenny 1977 53. Gomez Farias, tam. to Tamazanchale, S.L.P. Up at 7:30 after a rainy night. Mante for breakfast at Los Arcos Courts, done 8:45, then to bank to change money and got post card off to MVZ. Then on towards Cd. Valles. Took 80 into San Luis Potosi for Salamanders. Looked at several places near waterfalls or river in mts W of El Naranjo, S.L.P. (3rd ridge W of 85) but found nothing save insects. Some interesting ant mounds here [illegible] of fine dirt. Probably deep. A nice clear blue stream, muddy bottom & a wonderful falls. Drove up 80 several miles finally getting into good bromeliad forest (laurels, etc). Stopped to picklo (John's) specimen then back down 80 to 85 & Valles, reaching there ~5:30 for dinner at El Banitos tr. pk. Then on to Tamazanchale & a road drive up rd to San Martin at dusk (~7:30). Area thru here is very mountainous w/ steep valleys, almost every tillable inch of slopes has been cut & planted to coffee or bananas. No nets set as no good place found. Room at Junta Court for the night and a shower!!!
