J.O. Straney 1977 3 July until. want him to touch Desmodicus, but that we would pick up a Leptodira which he was frightened of. Breakfast at Los Arcos Courts in Maule - a very nice place. Gas, then back to Gomez Farias and specimen processing at gravel pit till 1:30. The local "kid" kept John entertained throughout. Retired to cafe for lunch of cokes, then hiked several miles up towards Rancho Cielo. Wonderful mesic forest but all rather steep. Found a whip scorpion and many fine butterflies. Saw 3 Iguanas in crevices but John could only get out 1. Several sceloporos & skunks runaway. Took pictures. Back ~6 for dinner then drove down looking for lowland slope places to net. Found an area in lowlands where wee trail followed power line Xing G.F. Rd., ## 4.0 mi E Gomez Farias. Set 2 nets here ~10:00 - delay due to heavy downpour at dusk that lasted till 9:30. Nets: GF [diagram] Got nothing, but frustrated. Took down at 11:30. Very few insects total. Bed ~12-12:30 52.
