John finally got thru it - they never looked at anything else, then drove out 85 to Monterrey, leaving about 3:30. Arrived monterrey ~6:30-7 after a long drive thru flat lands (mesquite gradually dropping out) and up onto the plateau the city is on. Much driving around monterrey looking for a place to stay but cheap ones all full. Hit bad traffic in town. Decided to go up to chippingue motel on mesa SW of town. A little expensive and plush but nice & cool with fine view of city. Very nice forested mountains. Dinner of beer and then to bed.
