D.O. Straney 1977 47. 1 April surrounded by Anna's hummingbirds landed 6" to the left of the carss, jumped on it and flew to a nearby pole and started eating it. The owl stood ~ 7-9" tall, sandy bars on white belly and sandy spots on light back - 2 black marks ~~ on back of head, yellow eyes, no "horns", and a face smaller than a mouse. It watched as we threw several more mice but finally was spooked. 5.5 mi W 6 P. Boylei (released) 1 Penomathus Californicus John found 2 Gerrhonotus multicarinatus under a log. 7.6 mi W 1 P. boylei (released) 1 P. tucui (released) The two areas where we got P. californicus are 11.8 & 12.3 mi W of Bodfish which corresponds nicely to Grinnell's old 1916 locality of 12 mi down from Bodfish where he got Californicus (assuming 1.) Bodfish was not moved when lake Isabella was put in and 2.) this road is the one he used). We well reset here tonite.
