D.O.Straney 1972 43. 29 March goes off up Darwin Falls Canyon. A small road follows and we went down this ~.1 mi to base of canyon and set up camp. Walked ~ 1/4 mi up to the spring. There is much water and the stream runs well past our camp. Set traps along the stream below the 1st falls - in cattails & willows for a while, then along the canyon wall. 57 small and 20 lg traps here. Another 20 lg traps along wash below camp. Then dinner. Per found 1 Bufo boreus while setting and we returned later to find 3 more in the pond at the base of the permanent spring. Saw a bat (Pipistellus?) drinking here. Returned and in bed ~ 9:30PM - heard a burro braying before falling asleep. [heard great horned owl earlier today]. 30 March up by 7 AM for breakfast and the walk up the canyon. Got: Darwin Falls, Paramount Spring, Inyo CO. 7 P. cinnatus (1 escaped) 1 P. maniculatus (dead) 1 Bufo boreus in trap 1 Crotaphytus floating in stream.
