17.
Aug. (cont'd.)
No bats were collected in the net by the cave. After Nets up at ~7:30, we went back in the woods and built a fire for a sumptuous dinner of hotdogs.
1st bat caught ~8:10 pm., a T Lasinius borealis, 7 more caught before nets taken down ~11:15-pm. The net in the inlet did better in catching bats, and after dusk, most bats seen were flying inland at the head of this inlet where there was no underbrush but still respectable canopy. Finally back in Memphis by 3 AM. We are staying at Mikes place while he is gone to the Smokies.
18 Aug.
A wasted day. Didn't wake up until 2pm and it was 4 by the time we had finally replaced a headlight in the car which was broken (both beams). Processed bats, but this was delayed as the Lasinius refused to die in the freezer. Far too late to get to collecting site tonight, so will take it easy and rest up for the long drive home, beginning on the 20th.
