D.O.Straney 1976 28 July, contd. Steve has arranged for his masters student, Terry L. Zinn, to go in the field with us. Terry is working on food habits in Austroriparius as well as some bat impact work (Cross-Fla., Barge Canal). 29 July Tonite went to Williston to collect Tadarida. Gainsville 12 1/2 S S-332 equipment garage 2mi I beam Bats Door The roof, an active heavy equipment barn where Steve counted 1000 bats one night in May, Z yrs. ago. Diagram above of where they roosted. The roof is flat and metal with wood struts. There were no Tadarida. Nets set in both doorways caught nothing and nothing was seen flying out. Tonite, 31 July Last night rained out. Sam and I went to a cave in an abandoned quarry 2 mi S Orange Lake, Fla. One net set over mouth of cave and we waited armed with scoop nets. Nothing. One M. austroriparius seen at sunset but that was it. Terry went in and claimed the water was drained out and he saw 3 bats flying inside - not the hundreds usually seen there. Perhaps drop in water level
