1986 Walter D Koenig 2 Melanerpes formicivorus Blomone HNHR (15 April) 900. It looks like the residents are pretty well in control, however. [illegible] 8 1089 from Plaque 920. Over on the side (in direction of Farkyroll) it looks like ① 8m/DB #1089 ; at least 2 others. ② 8m/or/Ref-wh#1146+ 2[illegible]. These birds are not really participating in the power struggle. ③ M / bp-wrn(m) - thin 1170 ④ ♀ LB/wrn/LB #945 An ⑥ub 8 over here causing trouble as well. (Maybe not - all 5 may be in this together). All 5 of these birds are in the trees to the north of the granary, but do not appear to be mixing at all with the fighting going on there. 940. Back at the granary: ♀1169 prominent. 8832 definitely here. In the trees just above the granary: 2♀: ① ♀Orkwd/Maune#998 and ② ♀ LP-LB/LP-LBlue (Yes) → ③ ♀ Yel-LG /Yel-LG (Maybe same as ②; leg seen well.) These 2 (3?) birds are up above the granary for the most part. 1015. Still some chasing in the granary, but things are calming down. Only bird not obvious is 81167 who I caught this morning; he may in fact have already truly dispersed and only come home for the night. There have even been copulations between 8492 and 9808, so she's still in tight, at least. Also I should note that it's 9809 doing the most drumming here! 1030. I'm getting cold. Kaby should be here shortly to watch some more, but I'm going. There's still some chasing, but the situation looks pretty stable to me; they shouldn't have much trouble keeping control.
