1988 Walder D. Koenig Melanerpes fomiceivorus Keep Out HNHR 19 August 730. A fabulous set of ambushes here: 9 birds (3 ub 3f) altogether from 2 holes. In the nest tree (the dying Live Oak): 81016 and 9ub=1669 (caught on the evening of 18 Aug; released 19 Aug). In the granary (the Valley Oak): 81221 81382 (captured 18 Aug PM) The hole in the granary was too deep to allow grabbing all the birds at night, so we had to let them come out in the morning. Quite a catch! 81127 8706 81219 9ub=1670 (captured 19 Aug AM) (same hole) *Group Update* 8706. Last hat been seen by Connie on 30 Nov. 1987 (and not very well then!); not a trace since. I think I will therefore assume that he really did leave, and return this summer (say 1 July). 81016. This bird was last seen on 26 Feb, and so I will hazard the guess that he was here all along. 3rd NOBA9 (= 9ub=1670). Apparently a 3rd 9 joined the group with 9ub5310 and 5311 back in late March.
