11 April 910. 2 eggs, fresh, in 1987 hole (the big knot).
12 April 1430. 3 eggs. Maybe only 1♀ after all.
15 April 1630. 4 eggs. Yep. 1♀ (3 as before + 1 new egg).
24 April 1100. Still 4 eggs, all opaque and developed but not hatched.
It just occurred to me to start keeping track of the fact that
this is an ant tree.
26 April 830. 3 young hatchlings plus egg #4, developed but may not
hatch, I guess.
28 April 945. 2 live babies, 1 dead baby, and egg #4, which died
while trying to hatch (never quite made it out of the egg).
18 May 930. Came up to band the babies, but nest empty! Failed.
Well, as a consolation, the granary does appear to be out
of stores.
26 May 1215. None in any of the granary holes.
3 June 600. " " " " " "
10 June 1230. " " " " " "
18 June 2000. 2 birds roosted together in the low hole in the
granary tonight.
27 June 430. 2 birds roosted last night, but ambush failed.
24 August 1800. A nest! In the 3rd unopened hole. Banded 1 baby,
#1671, bright and cheery, and about 15 days old, I'd
guess (but not overly fat). This means that the last
egg date was somewhere about 30 July!
They have a couple (only) fresh acorns stored
here; thus, one might reasonably consider this a fall
nest, I suppose.
