1988 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes fornicivorus School Hill HNHR 10 June 1245. None in any holes, as usual. Watching for a Gt. 1410. 7 birds altogether; no sign of a nest! 20 June 930. Bird in traditional hole: Egg, finally! Fresh. 22 June 1745. Hole empty. Makes me wonder whether it's possible that the problem here is too many males after all (♂ egg tossing?). It looks now like they just aren't going to make it, despite having acorns remaining. 27 June 500. An ambush at the low hole in the Enclosure tree #4 (upper one) yield 6 birds - all ♂. They were ♂1385, ♂1387, ♂1388, ♂1426, and 2 ub ♂, now ♂1619 and ♂1620. God knows where yet another NOBA ♂ might have come from! *Group Update* I have to wonder about this 2nd NOBA ♂, who presumably makes 8 birds in the group (♂260 and 7 ♂), especially since I've counted 7 here several times. Hence, I'm going to have him move here as of June"0". 3 July 1045. None in any holes. 5 July 1845. " " " ". There are several hundred acorns remaining here, by the way.
