1988 Walford Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Horsetail HNHR 30 March There is a group here, apparently an unbanded pair. They even have at least a few acorns stored up in the granary. Tonight we ambushed at a new hole in the (artificial) granary which has been under construction at least the last several days and caught an NBA 3, now 31469. Given the presence of an ub pair here last fall, I guess we have to assume these to be the same birds, and that they've been around - maintaining a low profile - all winter. My own guess is that these are the 2 ub birds Connie kept seeing down by the gate, assuming they were Gate birds.
