27 March 1230. Checked the low nest hole in the Blue Oak - it looks
perfect, with nice dry wood chips on the bottom and
everything.
These birds, whoever they are, have lots of acorns remaining.
30 March Jane, censusing up here, actually saw some birds!
These included a NOBAF, 8'1110, and 8'1265 (The latter
an '86 baby not seen since banding).
There are lots of acorns here, so it's nice that
a group has finally surfaced.
6 April 830. No sign of anyone in any holes here, despite lots of
acorns. Both holes in the granary look very nice.
12 April Watched roosting here and saw a bird, but I have no idea
where he/she went!
24 April 1300. Bird in hole in old Buckeye hole across from Chongo!
Could this be it? Bird flew back toward Chongo...
1500. Opened hole. Zilch! But in good shape.
30 April 1100. Bird in hole: 1 egg! Fresh, marked by me. Great! Xhow
the only real problem: is this really Chongo's nest, or is it
Buckeye's 2nd nest?
9 May 1100. Checked nest: 5 eggs. Bird in hole.
When birds flush from here they fly off up the canyon,
not over toward Buckeye. Hence I don't think they're
Buckeye birds. But it's still not clear that they're Chongo
birds either...
24 May Bad news - it isn't their nest after all. Instead, Chongo had
a nest elsewhere and was already fledged young.
