1987 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus School Hill HNHR 6 June *Group Update* 3977. Last seen 28 March (MKH), gone by 3 May, when Mark saw lots of "extra" birds here (who nested by 10 May). →DA. 15 Apr ± 2 weeks, probably forced out by the new 86 here. Add. Lots of new ♂♂, 6 of them, it would appear. (no doubt not all of them will stay!). All are now banded save 1 (who incubated at night). 8 June 445. Ambushed all 3 holes in the nest tree this morning: old nest hole: nobody New hole above prior hole: ♂1387 ♂1386 and ♂1385, now ♂1426 Note that This ♂ is (presumably) the nocturnal incubator who I missed earlier) New nest hole: ♂1387. I thought more birds roosted here (there were ≥5 last ago for sure), but this was all I ended up with. In any case, all should now be banded here. 24 June 1600. None in any holes. 3 August Katy saw an ♂8 (the 7th!) here on 31 July; perhaps there's yet another up there! I'm adding him along with the others for now.
