Melanerpes fomiticivorus
Lower Arnold 2
HNHR
23 January
*Group Update*
8678. Last seen 19 Feb. 1985 (Philip?), gone by
9 April (probably, Missy watched). DA→15 Mar±3 wks.
7783. last seen by Stanback on 8 July, gone by
31 Oct. 1985; DA → 4 Sept ± 1 Month.
22 February
1400. Counted stores: Blue Oak: 856
others: 198
Pretty good! I'd set capacity here at 1300. (They in
addition could very well have 200 more acorns stuck in crevices
in the dead Blue Oak).
11 April
1000. None in any holes here.
Mark found bits in a new hole here.
17 April
1630. Opened the new hole - 7 babies! not even just hatched, but
probably about 3 days old!. This would give them a hatching
date of 15 April (possibly 14 April), incubation thereby starting
on 5 April, and thus a FED (exclusive of egg-tossing) of
3 April (probably even 2 April). This and UA2 become
the new records for the earliest nests! (Walt, see BKOK 86)
