Melanerpes formicivorus
Road Warrior HNHR
24 April I discovered this group today while wandering around
looking for Road I's nest. It is in a small gully and the
surrounding flat area up above the bend in Finch Creek
near group Finch. The pipeline runs right by it, but
it's quite likely I've never been up here before. Nonetheless,
the granary has perhaps 800 holes, currently filled with
200± acorns. There are lots of big Valley Oaks in the
vicinity as well. And I did see several birds.
Thus, being kind of in the middle of the study area,
this territory begs some attention. I obviously know
nothing of its prior history, although it's less than
100m from both Rl and Finch.
