Returned to open the hole up in the Valley Oak on HNHR where they showed interest this morning, finding a bit of lichen and 1 smallish scared-looking woodrat inside! I don't think they started a nest here! 22 June 930. The nest lives. A ♀ was in the hole when I arrived. I climbed up and checked, finding 4 eggs, warmed! I marked the 4th (the others were the same old 3) so it can be measured later. Apparently they haven't given up after all and are incubating! 28 October 1400. Counted stores: 1530. January 1983 8 January 1600. Counted stores: 2920. Everything is stuffed in this tree. I took a sample of 32 acorns from the granary. 5 June. 1630. Counted stores: 1200. Still doing amazingly well.
