Melanerpes fornicivorus
Bianca
HNHR
10 March
1035. Flushed a ♂ from the ravine area; he circled around The field
but I was unable to get a good look at him; he very well may have
been banded from what I saw, however.
1985
19 February
945. An unbanded ♂ and ♀ up at the top of The saddle near
LA2. No guaftake that they are Bianca birds, but it
seems likely.
Counted stores: 665, all in the "New" granary. There
certainly is a group here, at least.
8 April
Two birds roosted in the old nest hole tonight.
9 April
Set up an ambush, but I only saw 1 bird go in the hole.
10 April
Didn't see anyone go in the hole, but it turned out that
the ♀ was in there. We banded her as #993. She
had a grossly distorted abdomen and is certainly laying.
We put her back in her hole and stuffed it up to keep her
in, but immediately upon pulling the rag out from the
ground she flew out and off into the night.
The ♂ is presumably on the nest, wherever it is.
14 April
1630. None found in any holes here. 1 bird heard, however.
23 April
**Group Update**
We'll let this group be founded in Sept. 1984.
1 May
1540. None in any known holes. Watching.
1610. Nothing going on here at all as far as I can tell.
Are the birds even here?
17 May
745. Babies in the hole I ambushed the ♀ at!
