The new hole in the dead burned Blue Oak is it: there are 7 eggs + 1 newly hatched baby → hence, 2 99 certainly laid here. Since only 1 is listed, we should definitely watch here! "Clutch size" was obviously 8. It turns out that Missy thought she saw 2 ub♀♂ here last time, so almost certainly 7783 is gone, having been replaced by these 2 (see notes above, 14 April). 1 May (500). Checked the nest. There are only 3 babies and 5 unhatched eggs. 2 had clearly developed but died as embryos; 1 of these had possibly begun pipping. The other 3 had failed to develop entirely from the looks of it; 2 of these had small dents in the shell, possibly the result of some ill-timed pecking on the part of someone. 4 May 715. Set up to try and catch birds in the nest. Trapped a ♀ but she flew out another exit! 24 May Tried to net in front of the hole but no luck. Then at 1107, I checked it: empty. A failure.
