1984 1985 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Lower Arnold 2 HNHR 10 March 840. Watching here. There are few if any acorns left, but there is (supposedly) a group still here. 845. A ♂ here briefly. No- a ♀ Or-LB/or #783. < I just made that up, hint you.. 900. A ♂ came in - most likely 8611 but he was skittish and I didn't get a good look. Aha! Birds are sap-sucking back here! Moving hide. 945. Intruder! Chased off by ♀783. Now also (finally): ♂DB/LB#698; he is now here sap-sucking. 1000. ♀783 now here sap-sucking. Intruder back a few minutes later, again chased by 9783. 1015. A 3rd: ♂ La/4e2 #782 in sap area now. 1030. All for now. Could still be a 4th bird here, of course, but 3 of 4 isn't bad. 9 September 745. Left Stanback here to watch. One bird was up in the burned BlueOak granary when we arrived, so birds do exist here. 1985 12 February 1230. Several birds are flycatching over on the knoll toward Bianca; 2, at least, are banded and very likely LA2 birds. Counted stores: Burned tree: 510 } Inside areas: 343 } 853. This group has also been busy making new holes here and there, especially in the Burned Tree. They are much better off than they used to be. Two birds I may have seen (over at the old corral by BlkOak) are 8611 and ♀783, but my looks were none too good. 1315. Definitely seen here: ♂ Or/DB-Or. Who is this bird?
